Keeping the attention of the surfer

Imagine a web page that is full of text. Can you build a website with only text? The answer is yes but when you make a website like this, you are likely going to end up with a very boring website. Pictures, images, and videos bring a website to life. For any normal surfer on the web, the moment he or she thinks that a web page is boring, he or she will leave immediately. There are millions of other web pages out there, what is the incentive to stay? Even if the text is interesting, there is a very big chance that you will lose their attention the moment they see that there are no images or other visuals on the web site. Ideal website design strikes a perfect balance between text and image. If you are a good web designer then you will be able to do just that.

Add pictures to your story

Putting pictures on your website will make your web page much more interesting. If you are going to tell a story about how you spent your time on the beach then you might want to put a picture in the background. This can keep your readers attention. There are several formats for pictures on websites today. The most popular format used on websites today is the JPEG format. JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts Group. It is a picture format that is low in file size and acceptable in image quality. Other formats that you might want to use are the GIF or Graphics Interchange Format and the BMP or Bitmap formats.

Use the videos at the right time

Aside from pictures, you can put videos to spice up your web site even more. The rise of YouTube was based on the influx of user developed videos on their site. Videos are very interesting to watch but keep in mind that when you make a website with videos, it takes a longer time to download and display them on a browser. Make sure you use videos properly when designing your website. If you put videos that take too long to load then the surfers will simply leave your site because of impatience. You certainly do not want this to happen, right? The most common video formats that are being used for video today are the MPEG or Moving Pictures Experts Group format and the Flash Macromedia format.
